I can’t believe Christmas is only 3 days away! I was hoping to get this recipe shared sooner, but I just haven’t had a chance. So my great grandma found this recipe for candy cane Cookies probably like over 30 years ago in a magazine. She always said that she wished she never found it because everyone always wanted these cookies! The recipe is pretty simple, but the cookies are a bit time consuming to make. These are my absolute FAVORITE cookie ever!! Also, I should note, there is no actual candy cane or peppermint used in the recipe. They are just shaped like candy canes! Let me know if you make these and how you like them! Depending on how big you make your candy canes this recipe should make about 70-90ish cookies.

Candy Cane Cookie Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup soft butter
- 1 cup sifted powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 tsp almond extract
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp red food coloring
Directions:
- Heat oven to 350 degrees
- Prep baking sheet with parchment paper
- Mix butter, powdered sugar, egg, almond extract, and vanilla together
- Add flour and salt and mix
- Divide dough in half
- Add red food coloring to one half of the dough and mix
- Now it’s time to start making the candy cane shape!
- Take a very small amount of the white dough (about 1/2 tsp) and roll into a little strip, then take a very small amount of the red dough (about 1/2 tsp) and roll into a little strip, then twist the white and red strips together
- Shape the twisted strips like a candy cane and place on baking sheet
- Bake until very lightly browned about 7-9 minutes
- Let cookies cool
- Use a sifter and sprinkle powdered sugar on the cookies (For me, the more powdered sugar the better!)
Enjoy your baking and let me know how they turn out! Let me know if you have any questions before, during, or after!
