Decorating my Son’s Room

My son’s room was one of the first spaces we tackled when we moved into our house. The reasoning behind that was because I was pregnant and we wanted to make sure his room was ready when he was born. I had never decorated a nursery or for a boy so this was new for me, and it was so much fun!

The one thing that really bothered me as I started hunting for decor was that there is soooo much more girl stuff than boy stuff! At Hobby Lobby, which is where I got most of the decor, there are like 3 aisles of nursery decor for girls, but only like a quarter of an aisle for boys. Honestly, though, I feel like that’s how it is when it comes to anything for kids and babies. There is a ton of stuff for girls, and barely anything for boys. It’s extremely frustrating. I mean, come on! Boy stuff is cute too!!!

I know that regular old painted accent walls aren’t much of a thing anymore unless it’s like board and batten or shiplap or whatever, but beings that this is Mayson’s room, I wanted to leave it as more or less of a blank slate so that as he gets older if he wants to paint it a different color or whatever, we can do that. I feel like there are more and more bloggers that I see that don’t let their kids enjoy bright colors and fun decorations because it doesn’t fit their “aesthetic” and I just don’t want to be like that. I want him to be a kid and to have a fun kid room. I used Behr paint from Home Depot. The blue accent wall color is Greenwich Village and the gray wall color is Mineral.

We got a convertible crib, so that as he grows, it will convert into a toddler bed. I feel like these types of cribs don’t seem as popular these days, but I would rather just buy this and be able to use it as he gets older, than just to get a crib because it’s more aesthetically please. I want things to be pretty, but I also want them to last and actually be functional. The shelves the books are on are picture shelves. They are sturdy, but you don’t want to put too much weight on them.

The monitor on the wall behind the crib is the Owlet. We LOVE it. We also used the Owlet sock when he was a baby. Honestly it was the best investment ever. Just having that peace of mind was the most amazing thing. I highly recommend it. It’s definitely an investment, but totally worth it.
